Julia Clarke

I am a PhD candidate in English literature currently finishing up my dissertation, which is on material culture in the Victorian novel. Much of my project depends upon how nineteenth-century novels illuminate the plight of women, addicts, and the poor. Social justice is, in part, why I wanted to attend graduate school in the first place: I was taken with the way Victorian literature’s interest in the urban poor informs our current moment.
